One Sun One World One Grid ; Can India Take a Lead

Modi and Johnson at the recently held COP26 Climate summit released the One Sun declaration, which stated, “Realising the vision of One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG) through interconnected green grids can be transformational, enabling all of us to meet the targets of the Paris Agreement to prevent dangerous climate change…these efforts can stimulate green investments and create millions of good jobs”.

PM Modi while delivering his remarks at COP26 said ;

“One Sun, One World & One Grid will not only reduce storage needs but also enhance the viability of solar projects. This creative initiative will not only reduce carbon footprints and energy cost but also open a new avenue for cooperation between different countries and regions,”

Through a worldwide grid, clean energy can be transmitted to anywhere & anytime. PM Mr Modi said ; “I am hopeful that a common and strong global grid can be developed through cooperation between ‘One Sun, One World & One Grid’ and ‘Green Grid’ initiatives and Indian space agency ISRO is going to provide a solar calculator application to the world.”

The only challenge with the OSOWOG initiative is that this energy is only available during the daytime and is dependent on the weather, However, ‘One Sun, One World & One Grid’ can be the solution to this problem and to a large extent it can also be resolved by the app developed by ISRO which would calculate the solar energy potential of a place and will also help in planning for development of solar energy projects, as claimed by ISRO.

According to ISA ; The GGI-OSOWOG will bring together a global coalition of governments, international financial and technical organisations, legislators, power system operators and knowledge leaders to accelerate the construction of the new infrastructure needed for a world powered by clean energy,

According to the OSOWOG declaration, the main areas of work of the initiative will be: investing in solar, wind, storage and other renewable energy generation in locations endowed with renewable resources for supporting a global grid; building long-distance cross-border transmission lines to connect renewable energy generators; developing and deploying cutting edge techniques and technologies to modernise power systems; supporting the global transition to zero emission vehicles through incorporating the role of electric vehicles to help improve grid flexibility; attracting investment into solar mini-grids and off-grid systems to help vulnerable communities gain access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy; developing innovative financial instruments, market structures for solar grid infrastructure.

Technology Has always Played an instrumental role in bringing mankind closer.

Technology has always brought the mankind closer. The advent of engine  enabled development of automobiles, railways and aircrafts that shrunk the size of planet in terms of time and space and finally the IT made the earth a global village.

The OSOWOG idea is excellent and the world has cheered it but is India geared up to take the lead.

There is no dearth of brains in India and so the great ideas keep pouring in , moreover the Indians have given numerous CEOs to world's leading technology based companies, but what is worrying is that we have always failed to harness those ideas and take those further, The famous Hindi song of Purab and Paschim aptly puts it across the challenge  ;

(jab zero diya mere bharat ne

bharat ne mere bharat ne

duniya ko tab ginti aayi

taro ki bhashha bharat ne

duniya ko pahle sikhalayi

deta na dashmalav bharat to

yu chand pe jana mushkil tha

dharti aur chand ki duri ka

andaza lagana mushkil tha

apna bharat vo bharat hai

jiske pichhe sansar chala

sansar chala aur aage badha

yu aage badha, badhta hi gaya.)

Conclusion.

This time around it should not happen that we give the ideas and some rogues and uncouths come and ruin us and other societies because they could stand firm against the rogues make use of our ideas and take a leap ahead.

Right now, Chinese companies are way ahead of us in the manufacturing of SOLAR Photovoltaic cells and may benefit from our idea. therefore, We have to do lot of catching up.

And to ensure that such a thing does not happen, as it happened in past, and to catch up with others , we need to develop an entire eco system that develops the ideas into viable technologies which can then be used for the progress of mankind.

This eco system must have quality Institutions, a dynamic corporate sector which works in close coordination with Research institutions, Open minds that are free to explore new things, a society that has a scientific temper, skilled human capital and finally the security to retain our political independence and way of life.

If we fail to establish such an environment we may end up with the same situation as explained in the song above;

apna bharat vo bharat hai

jiske pichhe sansar chala

sansar chala aur aage badha

yu aage badha, badhta hi gaya.

Aur hum ideas detey rahe aur woh aagey badhtey rahey |

About Us

Our journey as a modern nation statestarted in 1947 with the historic speech byPandit Jawaharlal Nehru, with 95% illiteracy, barely any industry and transport system, armed forces that were divided due to partition lacking equipment was largely in disarray, if there were guns- then the dial sights were taken away by Pakistanis, making the guns ineffective, if there were files- maps were taken way by Pakistanis, if there were battalions, half the men had gone away to Pakistan and so on.
