Former US president George W. Bush on last Wednesday criticised the withdrawal of NATO troops from Afghanistan and said civilians were being left to be "slaughtered" by the Taliban. "Afghan women and girls are going to suffer unspeakable harm. This is a mistake... They're just going to be left behind to be slaughtered by these very brutal people, and it breaks my heart," Bush told German broadcaster Deutsche Welle.
The withdrawal of troops is undoubtedly a colossal mistake and if this mistake is not corrected now, it will bring untold misery to this entire region.
The only ones happy are Taliban and Pakistan.
Taliban wasted no time in getting cozier with China, calling them friends and vowed that they will never render any help to Uyghur Muslims and Pakistan is all smiles from ear to ear.
In an interview with The New York Times last month, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said Pakistan used its leverage on the Taliban to bring the militant group to the negotiating table with the U.S. and the Afghan government.
“(I)t was (us) really pushing them, pressurizing them to talk to the Afghan government,” said Khan. But he added that Pakistan’s “leverage diminished on the Taliban,” as the U.S. announced the withdrawal of its remaining forces from Afghanistan by September 11, which is now more than 90% complete.
Whom are they fooling now ?. The world knows that injured Taliban terrorists are receiving treatment in Pakistani Hospitals and the dead are being cremated in Pakistan. The Madrasas in Pakistan are the recruitment centers of Taliban.
Is it not surprising that in a land locked country Like Afghanistan, there exists such a potent force - Taliban which within few months captures almost 85% of Afghan territory by defeating almost 2 lac Afghan forces trained by USA, equipped with artillery guns, fighter aircrafts and helicopters. This can only be possible when someone was providing them good amount of help in terms of logistics and training. And this can be none other than Pakistan. A rag tag force could have never been able to make such swift movements. Its not surprising, therefore, if even Pak army might be helping the Taliban consolidating their position.
In another few months Pakistan’s establishment will demand financial aid from the world to help the refugees pouring from Afghanistan which will then be utilized to produce more Jehadis. Its high time that world powers take a serious view of this old Pakistani game and realize that Pakistan is a nation which has only NUISANCE VALUE and nothing else. All it can give to the world is JEHADIS.
