It is normal in a democratic country that many a decisions are taken and schemes launched with lot of publicity and fan fare. This is perhaps because of electoral compulsions.
But when the human lives are involved the political leadership need to act maturely and its decisions not be guided upon by electoral compulsions and it must be seen to rise above religion and caste considerations.
Lets take two examples where the current Govt has not acted responsibly.
- In 2008 , an initiative was launched quietly without much fanfare for the rehabilitation of Pundits in valley. The Government had devised policies for Return and Rehabilitation of Kashmiri Migrants, under the Prime Minister’s Packages. It is common sense that after what had happened in 90s it was not easy for many of these migrants to return. So, quietly conditions were created so that some of them could return. Any publicity in this matter would have once again jeopardized their return and endanger the lives of pundits. Both the state govt and the central govt acted responsibly and as a result, over the years, pundits almost 6000 of them were given govt jobs in valley and they came back and were living happily. But then came this Govt in 2014 and because it wanted to derive a political mileage out of what had happened in 90s , deliberately upset the whole communal environment by using every possible means ; social media, movies, formal media, legislations and so on. As a result now one after the other the same Kashmiri pundits are being once again specifically targeted by terrorists and those poor Kashmiri pundits, who trusting the Govt had returned are now pleading for security. Those who are rich, influential and need not have to go back are giving advise to them to be Courageous.
- Our honourable PM during his visit to Bangladesh in Mar 21, when the elections in West Bengal were in process, went to Jeshoreshwari and Orkandi temples located in Bangladesh. The Gopalganj's Orakandi is the abode of hundreds of Hindu Matua community, a large number of whom are also residents of West Bengal and were important from the elections point of view in West Bengal. However, his visit to temples led to violence in Bangladesh and many Hindus had to face the anger of Islamic fundamentalists in Bangladesh and their temples were desecrated and some Hindus lost their lives. Surprisingly, the Presstitutes despite the desecration of temples and loss of Hindus' life, showered praises and described the event as follows ;
The First ever PM of India to have visited the temple of Matua community.
Its now left for the people to judge - was it Bhakti or Electoral Politics, was it genuine concern for Kashmiri Pundits or Electoral Politics.
Often it happens that the one who goes about doing his work quietly is genuine and the one who shouts his lungs out is Pretending, feigning and is hypocritical.
