Max Muller a German philosopher rightly called Ved as the First words spoken by mankind. 4000 years ago the rest of the world had no ability to write and correspond in such a sophisticated language.The term Ved means “knowledge”, they are believed by Hindus to contain the fundamental knowledge related to all aspects of human life. They do not serve as a manual but as a “framework” to be used by human beings towards living better life, learn and seek further.
If one goes through the vedas dispassionately one finds hymns are not only about rituals and practices that were in vogue then, as being the popular opinion, but tell us about the explorative minds our ancestors had, they not only questioned the physical world but also looked within to enquire its purpose. Those contemplated Vedas had great knowledge of the terrain, its geographical features ,rivers that flowed then through this vast subcontinent, the mountain ranges and the towns. Besides shaping the views most of these scriptures ; Ved, Upanishads, Gita , Vedant are interactive in nature, indicating that our ancestors were not apprehensive of answering an inqusitive mind.
They had a tremendous fervor, enthusiasm and inquisitive mind to explore the vast lands and It was this zeal that led the generations to come to travel far and wide, establish Mathas in all four corners of the continent, explore the origin of ganges, and travel as far as Mansarovar, spread their thoughts and beliefs in far off distant lands like Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Srilanka, Singapore, Malaya, Mauritius and so on. Upanishads and Vedas , Gita, …… tell us what Max Muller so ardently explained. He said, while delivering a lecture in the University of Cambridge in 1882 said ; "If I were asked under what sky the human mind has most fully developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered over the greatest problems of life and has found solutions of some of them which well deserve the attention even of those who have studied Plato and Kant – I should point towards India. And if I were to ask myself from what literature we here in Europe, we who have been nurtured almost exclusively on the thoughts of Greeks and Romans and of Semitic race, the Jewish, may draw the corrective which is most wanted in order to make our inner life more perfect, more comprehensive more universal infact more truly human not for this life but eternal life again I should point to India".
It is therefore creditable that a continent of the size of India spreading from Kabul, Kandhar erstwhile Kandhar to Kanyakumari and Somanth to Pashupati nath and then to Far East Asia, our ancestors could accept , assimilate thousands of tribes, local cultures, into one big family of humanity. It was this ability that helped them to spread their thoughts and beliefs to such far off lands. They never spoke in terms of you and me. This is the essence of Bharat ; assimilation.
The world is a family (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam).
One is a relative, the other stranger,
say the small minded.
The entire world is a family,
live the magnanimous.
Be detached,
be magnanimous,
lift up your mind, enjoy
the fruit of Brahmanic freedom.
—Maha Upanishad 6.71–75
This would answer as to ;
Why do the Natives of this huge subcontnent have so many Devtas and Dieties?
Why have we been able to produce so many philosophers, preachers who without any fear and intimidation talked about their perspectives, had their own followers and their own sects and places of worship and they could exist in the same village and in the same town without fear ?
Why have the natives allowed so much of diversity unlike in West or in other parts of Asia where rulers allowed massacres and killings to bring about Unity of Belief and Faith ?
